From David Monk et al., Oregon Toxics Alliance:

PUBLIC MEETING ON COBURG POWER PLANT
Friday, Feb. 6, 2004 at 6pm in the EWEB training room

STOP WESTCASCADE POWER, a grassroots group opposed to the siting of a
gas-fired power plant north of Coburg, is sponsoring an informational
meeting on Feb. 6 at 6pm in the EWEB training room. Issues to be
discussed
are: water use, land use, air quality and the political process with
regards
to the construction and operation of a gas-fired power plant north of
Coburg.

The Coburg facility would sell power on the open market, utilizing the
power
grid that connects the Western states. The anticipated customers would
range
from Seattle to San Diego, according to the plant's proponents.

Each year the Coburg plant would emit 401.2 tons of nitrogen oxide,
325.9
tons of particulate matter, 286.1 tons of carbon monoxide, 86.1 tons of
volatile organic compounds, and 51.8 tons of sulfur dioxide. The
facility
would also emit 5.4 tons of "hazardous air pollutants" per year,
including
arsenic, formaldehyde, and mercury.

Local people will bear the brunt of the problems caused by the proposed
power plant, while the beneficiaries will range from Seattle to San
Diego.

Please come and inform yourself about the proposed facility and get
involved
in preventing the power plant from being sited in our area.
