SPRING EQUINOX
WEST EUGENE WETLANDS WALK
Sunday, March 23, 2003 - 1 pm - Wallis and Fifth StreetsAn easy two mile loop through your public parklands that are
threatened by the West Eugene "Park"way
Bertelsen Nature Park * Bertelsen and Teal Sloughs
Stewart and Grimes Ponds * Amazon Creek A-3 tributary
The forest around Bertelsen Slough has been neglected by the
community for a long time. Currently owned by ODOT (and slated for
clearcutting by highway construction crews), it is a critical part
of the West Eugene Wetlands nature preserve, part of the Bertelsen
Nature Park complex that has been created by local governments and
the US Bureau of Land Management.
As part of our "giving back to the land," we will spend a little
time on this walk picking up trash in the WEP's path that has been
abandoned by some of Eugene's homeless citizens - please bring
gloves. We will supply trash bags and haul it to the dump in Glenwood.
